Her book “Ungendering Techology: Women Retooling the Masculine Sphere” offers fresh insight into women’s mastery of technologies commonly associated with men, based on five original case studies: breast cancer survivors in Newfoundland who constructed a wooden dragon boat using hand and power tools; Egyptian women who used information and communication technologies for political action during the Revolution of 2011; pioneer female audio engineers in the United States working in live concert and studio venues; U.S. female commercial airline pilots who mastered the complexity of flying large aircraft; and a university-educated woman working in sewer maintenance and repair for the City of Detroit in the 1970s.

In 2023, Haddad published “Built for Life: Healing Stories from the Avalon Boat Build” based on the first chapter of that earlier work, and illustrated with photos supplied by boat builder Jane Brown and others. Copies are available at certain libraries (ISBN 978-1-7382413-0-9) or by contacting Carol Haddad. It is a classic piece, as some of the builders interviewed have since passed away.

Her 2002 book “Managing Technological Change: A Strategic Partnership Approach” broke new ground by demonstrating the value of including employees and their unions in planning for and adopting new workplace technology in a variety of industries. Still in print, it continues to be relevant today. https://sk.sagepub.com/book/mono/managing-technological-change/toc
